Combined Solution to be Demonstrated at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

CENTENNIAL, CO – September XX, 2016 – Hitron Americas Technologies Inc., the fastest-growing DOCSIS consumer premises equipment (CPE) manufacturer in North America, and Nimble This, a leading developer of proactive network management (PNM) solutions for telecommunications providers, are offering an advanced PNM product that will track down network signal problems before they become an issue for consumers.

Currently cable operators spend significant resources locating plant impairments.  A large number of these plant impairments are RF noise related.  A major issue for cable operators is identifying the source of return path noise.  Between 85% and 95% of all noise in the cable plant originates from the subscriber home or the drop to the home.  A single home can emit a large amount of noise into the return path ruining the quality of experience (QoE) for every subscriber on that same upstream.  When this occurs it becomes mission critical for the cable operator to quickly find and fix the source of the upstream ingress restoring high quality data service to subscribers.

Using embedded spectrum analysis modules (ESAMs) like Hitron’s CMS-02, placed in fiber nodes and on other line gear, operators can collect network data that is fed to Nimble This’ data aggregation and collection hardware and software in the headend.  The Nimble This PNM solutions analyze the pre-equalization data in cable modems to locate outside plant impairments to within 50 feet or less before dispatching a technician.

“This solution helps techs spend less time finding the problem and gives them more time to fix it. For very little investment, service providers can cut the cost of troubleshooting up to 80% by giving techs more explicit directions to the impairment,” said Greg Fisher, CTO, Hitron Americas. “By pairing Hitron and Nimble This technologies, remediation time is cut as are operating expenses, and customer satisfaction is improved,” he added.

Key benefits of the combined PNM solution include:

  • Locating network impairments prior to dispatching a technician
  • Identifying locations of network impairments in minutes rather than hours
  • Interactive map showing location of modems and level of impairment
  • Lower maintenance costs resulting from automation of network impairment detection

“I am very excited to integrate the CMS-02 into the Nimble This PNM application as it provides tremendous value to the cable operator to quickly find and fix the impairment and adding further value by reducing their maintenance costs.  Also this integration provides insight into upstream and downstream not previously viewable,” said Brady Volpe, founder, Nimble This.

Momentum Telecom Debuts Proactive Network Maintenance and RF Upstream Spectrum Analyzer Add-On Modules

PRWEB.COM Newswire Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) July 28, 2014

Momentum Telecom, a leading hosted VoIP, broadband management and unified communications provider, today announced at the NCTC Independent Show the debut of two Nimble This add-on services that will help cable operators proactively identify service impairments that would otherwise not be seen until customers are adversely affected.

The add-ons will be available in two modules, a Proactive Network Maintenance (PNM) Analyzer and an RF Upstream Spectrum Analyzer, that can be paired with Momentum’s existing Broadband Explorer (BBX) services.

“We are happy to be working with Momentum to enable more cable operators to have access to PNM,” said Brady Volpe, CEO of Nimble This and member of the of CableLabs® InGeNeOs™ group that is focusing on PNM development. “CableLabs® and Nimble This strongly believe in this technology and want operators to utilize PNM because it’s a powerful tool that will greatly improve service to subscribers and reduce operating costs for the cable operator.”

“The Nimble This application allows Momentum Telecom to offer our MSOs high-value tools in addition to BBX that will save them even more time, help lower costs, improve quality, and greatly increase customer satisfaction,” said Tara Kelley, Vice President of Customer Experience for Momentum.

Proactive Network Maintenance Analyzer

The PNM Analyzer allows cable operators to lower maintenance costs and improve cable video and high-speed data for subscribers by proactively identifying impairments and pinpointing the exact location of the issue on a map. DOCSIS pre-equalization enables cable modems to adjust their signals to compensate for upstream impairments in the cable plant, immediately improving the upstream signal levels received by the CMTS.

The PNM Analyzer:

Locates upstream and downstream impairments
Lowers maintenance costs for cable operators
Improves cable video and high-speed data service for subscribers
Pinpoints the location of impairments using Mapping Technology
RF Upstream Spectrum Analyzer The RF Upstream Spectrum Analyzer can serve as a replacement for traditional spectrum meters by leveraging the latest chipsets in cable modems and set-top boxes that are able to capture the full spectrum passing through the device. The analyzer displays the spectrum for all data and video channels the same way it would appear on a meter, without the need to be on-site at the customer location.

The RF Upstream Spectrum Analyzer:

Supports DOCSIS 1.x, 2.0 and 3.0
Remotely links via iPad or Android device
Monitors every upstream port 24/7 without impacting CMTS
Requires no additional hardware or equipment
“We’re very excited to announce the rollout of the Proactive Network Maintenance and Spectrum Analyzer product modules,” said Brandon Hagood, Director of Product Development for Momentum. “These tools have been highly anticipated on our roadmap, and the customers I have talked to are eager to sign up and start taking advantage of the benefits of these invaluable technologies.”

ZCorum and Nimble This team up to offer a new way for cable operators to find and address network and in-home issues before they impact subscribers

San Juan, PR January 27, 2014 — At the CCTA show today, ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics software, and Nimble This, the leading developer of commercial PNM solutions for the cable industry, announced the launch of a new product that helps cable providers leverage the benefits of DOCSIS pre-equalization, while making use of that data to proactively identify impairments that normally would not be seen until customers are adversely affected.

Pre-Equalization is a feature in the DOCSIS standard that allows cable modems to adjust their signals to compensate for upstream impairments in the cable plant, such as micro-reflections caused by corroded coax connectors. One line of code in the CMTS turns on the feature, immediately improving the upstream signal levels received by the CMTS, which means an immediate improvement in the service experience for the subscriber.

ZCorum’s product, Pre-Equalization Analyzer, uses technology from Nimble This to analyze the pre-equalization data from the cable modems in order to identify upstream impairments, the precise location of the impairment and the severity of the impairment. This allows operators to more effectively maintain their HFC networks by knowing where and when to dispatch resources, while benefiting from the improved signal quality inherent in DOCSIS Pre-equalization. “Operators have a powerful new tool in their toolbox!,” said Volpe. “They can turn on pre-equalization, and then use Pre-Equalization Analyzer to leverage that data to actually show them what issues need to be addressed.”

Volpe, is a member of the of CableLabs InGeNeOs™ group that is focusing on proactive network maintenance (PNM) development, and is involved with the organization in continued development PNM technologies for DOCSIS 3.1 . “I’m excited to be working with ZCorum on bringing this product to market. I like their TruVizion software, and Pre-Equalization Analyzer is the perfect compliment for that tool. It’s a game changer for the industry and the way that operators will maintain and manage their networks moving forward.”

ZCorum President and CEO, Julie Compann, is also pleased with the partnership. “We’ve had a great working relationship with Brady for some time now, and are thrilled to be working with him on this new product. It’s a perfect fit for our mission, which is to help cable operators improve their broadband service through increased efficiency, lower costs, and a better experience for the subscriber.”
