In the NEWS
Cord cutting – What is the true story?
- According to eMarketer cord cutting has jumped 10.9% over last year
- According to bgr.com Apple has abandoned a TV subscription service model becuase they cannot break away their desired 25-30 channels from content providers
- But, according to 24/7 Wall Street, Comcast, Viacom, and Time Warner are all beating Wall Street earnings estimates – so do we care about cord cutting?
So Steve, John and I normally discuss Over the top content from a data standpoint over DOCSIS networks. I just recently upgraded my Netflix subsciption so that I could see how data throughput and buffering would impact a DOCSIS network when streaming 4k TV shows. But I was amazed at seeing my data rates spike to 40 Mbps when 4k episodes where buffering. Netfilx in UltraHD or 4k is basically 3 times the bandwidth of HD content. What is the MSO perspective on this?
